Audio books/ Audio programs
Let me start off by saying this, audio books and audio programs absolutely changed my life. It’s one of the most effective ways to feed your mind daily.
Furthermore, you’re reading this today as an indirect result of the audio books, and audio programs I’ve submerged myself in daily.
From the first time I heard Earl Nightingales “The strangest secret in the world“, or Les Browns “It’s Possible” speech, it sparked a flame inside me, it opened doors in my mind I never knew existed.
It planted dreams in my heart and visions of a future for myself I never thought were possible before. Audio programs can be life changing because they give you the opportunity to feed your mind while performing a task, like driving to work, working out in the gym or going for a walk etc.
Brian Tracy refers to it as “University on Wheels” because you can get the equivalent of a college education by listening to audio books over time.
Books
They say your future in 5 years will be determined by the books you read today, the people you surround yourself with, and the food you eat.
Maybe audio books aren’t your way of soaking up information. Maybe you’re more of a book person. Either way, books are one of the greatest and most inexpensive ways of feeding your mind.
Long before the internet; “the information highway”, there were books. Although you can now read them from the comfort of your smart phone or tablet I suggest a physical book.
It helps avoid distractions or impulses to check emails, notifications, or ending up down a rabbit hole search on Google or YouTube.
Head to your local book store and skim through the shelves for any topic you’re interested in.
Or click the “Book Store” page in the menu to browse recommendations for life changing books and best sellers.
Research
These days technology can either work for us or against us. On one hand technology allows us to have endless amounts of knowledge and information at our fingertips.
It’s like having a public library at the push of a button or the swipe of a screen. It provides instant communication with our friends & family, allows us to capture and share important moments in our lives, and lets us purchase vacation trips all from the comfort of our own home.
Unfortunately technology also allows us to fill our minds with garbage that brings us no value.
Use the internet as an educational tool. Research business ideas, career opportunities, financial advice and information that will help you grow.
You could literally teach yourself to fly a plane, by starting with a simple Google search. Ultimately, it’s all about what you put in the search bar.
Get those creative juices flowing, start researching information on areas of your life where you desire growth.
Feed your mind daily
An old audio recording from the 1950’s by Earl Nightingale made the best comparison of the human mind yet.
He compared our mind to a field, and we’re farmers. The seeds that the farmer plants are our thoughts. The field doesn’t care which seeds a farmer plants.
Whether he plants corn or a poison such as nightshade the land will yield both in equal measure. Our mind is unbiased. Whether we plant seeds of failure or success, structure or confusion, productivity or destruction, whatever we plant will grow.
Feed your mind daily with material that will encourage growth, motivation, hope, inspiration and education.
Time management
Time. Our most valuable resource that we tend to treat all too casually. You’ve heard it before, “Successful and unsuccessful people both have the same 24 hours in a day.” It’s been so overly used that it doesn’t really sink in.
But think of it this way, we go to work for 8 hours a day to provide the necessities. Food, water, shelter, utilities and entertainment. We sleep for 8 hours, leaving 8 hours free time. However, how we use those 8 hours of free time will ultimately decide our future.
Having said that, family time is extremely important, and should be prioritized accordingly. Especially as a parent or spouse.
Of almost equal to equal importance is devoting time towards personal growth. Make sure you spend time each day feeding your mind, writing your goals, doing at least one thing each day towards achieving them.
That hour or two each day you spend on personal growth while everyone else is binge watching t.v. series, will make all the difference over time.
